Fairy Inkcap - Coprinus disseminatus

Found in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia, Coprinus disseminatus is a gregarious saprobic trooping mushroom found on rotting timber, tree stumps, deciduous wood debris and on lawns and grassy areas, occasionally in shaded hedgerows, from August to November in the UK. This species is typically 0.5–1.5cm (0.2–0.6in) in diameter on thin white fragile stems around 1–1.5cm (0.4–0.6in) tall, initially egg shaped and a bright white becoming brown and flatter as they grow, then bell–shaped with slightly upturned margins, a process that only takes a couple of days. The synonym Pseudocoprinellus disseminatus is also used for this species as it does not auto–digest as do other Coprinellus species.
FBCP do not advise or recommend that Fairy Inkcap – Coprinus disseminatus is eaten or used as an herbal remedy. It is listed as edible with an undetermined flavour but due to its tiny size is not worth the time and effort needed to collect the large amount needed for cooking.
