Many thanks to Fay Newbury at Reading University for the identification of this Lichen species – Lecanora campestris.
A widespread and generally common white/grey crustose lichen that occurs on limestone, walls, cement, calcareous and silica rich rocks. It often has a brighter white edge where it is actively growing. The centre of the lichen is usually covered in misshapen brown discs with white margins, these are the fruits of the lichen.
It can be found on the limestone rocks at the centre of the park. Ascocarp are a reddish–brown colour with a glossy texture. Disc size typically 0.5mm–1.5mm (0.02–0.06in)in diameter reaching a maximum of 2mm (0.08in), are flat or a slightly convex and abundant. The thallus is a white to light grey colour and rather lumpy, sometimes with large protuberances.
