Pantilius tunicatus
Family - Miridae

A reasonably common bug of the Miridae family found in the UK more in the south, and of Northern and Central Europe.  It is seen later than other bugs in the year, not usually being found until late August or September on the lower branches of Hazel, their food plant, Alder and Birch.  8–10mm (0.3–0.4in) long with antennae of a shorter length it is of a generally red overall colouration but can be variable.  Emerging adults are an overall green darkening with age to their reddish brown colouration but retaining the young adults green legs and side stripes.  They have two pairs of very small white/cream patches on the apex of the triangular scutellum behind the head and a further two patches further down the elytra or wing case.
