Pied Shieldbug - Tritomegas bicolor
Family - Cydnidae
Syn. Sehirus bicolor
A distinctly black and white shieldbug 5.5–7mm (0.22–0.28in) long, common in southern areas of the UK but absent from Scotland and Ireland, also found in Europe, North Africa and Central Asia. It will be found on its host plants of the Lamium species Red Dead-nettle and White Dead–nettle, and Black Horehound, but can also be found on the ground.
In recent years a very similar Shieldbug, the Rambur's Pied Shieldbug – Tritomegas sexmaculatus has been found in south–east England during 2011, however our black and white shieldbug is not thought to be this new arrival as ours was identified in 2005–6.
