Fun Day, Geese / Ducks / Moorhens breeding, Queens Jubilee.

The Fun Day .....
(location map) is almost here for 2002! featuring this yearMillers Ark Animals - Mobile Farm, Chickens, Goats, Pigs, Geese, Ponies, and more, and all for free!  Especially for the younger ones, this part of the Fun Day will allow you to see and interact with animals not often seen in today's hectic lifestyle.  Also the usual games, attractions, groups and organisations, Bells Piece Horticulture plant stall, R.S.P.C.A., Blackwater Valley Volunteers.  30th June, 11am to 4pm.  Space still available for stalls - book now.

Again we will be helped by The Hire Center, in St. Josephs Road Aldershot, who are kindly loaning us a large diesel generator to provide our electrical needs for the day.  Without the help of local companies we would at times be unable to do some of our work in the park and also stage events like the Fun Day.  Our grateful thanks go to them.

Wildlife .....
The Canada Geese have been very successful this year and have produced seven goslings.  They have been left in peace this year both by the Heron and the vandals.  All 7 young are doing well, and the parents are being very protective.  its now about 7 weeks since they were hatched and they are getting quite large and doing an excellent job of keeping the grass mown!

The Moorhens have also produced a small clutch who are also doing well.  The ducks seem to have been a little over awed by the Geese and do not seem to have produced any young as yet, at the moment the Geese are "ruling the roost" somewhat around the pond area which would appear to have put the ducks off, still there will be plenty of time once the geese have gone.

Events .....
On the 11th May we attended the Bells Piece Horticulture Open Day along with several other local conservation groups.  Our first time at this event, we were surprised at the public attendance, obviously a popular event in the area.  We had a lot of interest in the park and the work of "The Friends" and what we do, especially as we had a prime spot right next to the exhibition tent entrance!

The 1st of June was the Aldershot Garrison Jubilee Celebrations, held at the polo fields on Queens Avenue, Aldershot.  A pleasant day despite the recent wet weather, parachute displays, exhibitions, police dog demonstrations, funfair and much more.  We were pleased to be invited to this event and went along with the display stand, lucky dip and garden ornaments, and did very well.  Lots of interest in the Park and the up-coming Fun Day, several compliments received from ranking Army staff on our efforts and quality of the display.

If you see any vandalism, damage or disturbance in the park, please do not get involved, but phone the Police on the usual numbers -
